An Open Letter From Alex Ramos On Keith Mullings

The Retired Boxers Foundation has an expert on Veteran's Benefits who is more than willing to help Keith Mullings. The process does take time, but with expert help, it will take half the time. The Retired Boxers Foundation Founder and President, Alex Ramos, has said many times: "We have to look at this situation like the Emergency Room Doctor treating a gunshot wound victim--He doesn't ask whose fault it is....he looks at the situation, treats it and that's it!".

We need to look at Keith's situation in the same way. "His past is like his ass....it's behind him" --Another Ramos pearl of wisdom..

Keith is also eligible for food stamps and emergency assistance for himself and for the kids. The reality is that it is a complicated process and if one is already suffering from some ailment like Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, the task can seem overwhelming. Another problem that people don't think about is the fact that Keith probably worries that the State will take his kids away if he seeks assistance, Thank God that is no longer true. Children and Family services do everything possible to keep kids with their parents, even if they are homeless. If Keith has not gone to Social Services, he needs to. Do not be afraid.

If we can get contact information for Keith, we will put him in touch with Richie Roberts (a former Bronx boy!) we will get his paperwork started. We can do all the leg work for Keith. Second, we need to find someone who is in the area who can work with us to get a phone card to Keith so he can contact us and we can assess his immediate needs. We can also set up a fund for Keith to accept donations from anyone who cares.

The Retired Boxers Foundation is small with no paid staff. We do not send cash because, in desperation, the money often does not get spent on what it should. We do use a lot of elbow grease to help the fighters and you would be amazed at what we can do. We have provided these services to so many fighters and it is entirely do-able. We have a lot of fighters who live independently with a monthly income and food on the table because of our help and we are eager to work with Keith Mullings.
