Alex;

Why don't you send the poem that you have to Mary Ann and Butch
Gottlieb.  They may be able to get it to the family to use in the
program.  It speaks about the heart of a champion and I think it would
be very fitting for Chico.  Please share with them our deepest sympathy
at the loss of a friend, and ask them to share it with Chico's family.
Having met Chico's Mom and Dad, I know that he was deeply loved.

I know that his wife is going to go through hell while she awaits the
birth of a child that will be her last reminder of her life with Chico.
I hope that she can remember that child being conceived in love, and
born into a world where he will continue to be loved by all of Chico's
family, his friends and even his fans.  I hope that she can recall the
loving moments, the fun times, the struggles that they tried to overcome
together, the beautiful children they produced, and the legacy that
Chico has left.  I hope that she can forgive him for his transgressions,
because we know--and you better than anyone--what a fighter goes
through.  I think that Chico expected more of himself than he was able
to deliver.  He had some vicious fights and I still cannot figure how a
tall skinny guy like that could fight so fiercely.  Chico was a man who
would have died in the ring it necessary, to be the best.   I hope like
hell that he was riding that bike, feeling the wind in his face,
grinning from ear to ear and feeling his last surge of excitement before
the good lord took him.  I hope that he went quickly and I hope that
those who love him can see that he is finally at peace.  He will be
remembered as a great fighter--a true champion of dignity.

Makes me so sad, Alex.  Not every fighter has nine lives like you do!!!
You have another fighter to add to your list of reasons why the RBF is
so important.

Love ya!

Jacquie

We Fought for the World

We fought our way up the mountain

And many never made it to the top.

Some of us reached the peak

And we didn't want to stop.

In our attempt to keep going higher

Some fell away from the slopes,

Instead of anchors to hold our hopes.

We fought for the world

But sometimes it's hard to tell

What was done for the world

And what we did for ourselves.

We make no excuses or apologies.

We just want to keep our dignity.

We fought for the world, now will you fight with us?

Like all pursuits filled with danger

Some people say "Why do it at all?"

For us it was just a way

For a moment to stand tall

And whatever the reason we made the choice

We chose to stay in the fight.

We want to find some sense in the consequence

Whether right or wrong, try to make it right.

There's honor and glory in climbing a mountain

We'd rather read about that story than about some one coming down.

We all surrender our youth, there's no magical  fountain.

Even champions face the truth and one day surrender their crowns.
